Frans completed a degree at Lincoln University in valuation and farm management before establishing a consultancy business in the property sector, moving into energy efficiency in 1993.

He established ECOsystems in 1995 with the vision, ‘saving energy and the environment’ and mission ‘to reduce energy consumption in commercial buildings by 50 per cent’. ECOsystems grew to become one of the largest private energy efficiency specialist companies in the commercial sector and received numerous national energy efficiency awards. ECOsystems was sold to Pioneer Energy in 2015.

Frans is a longstanding and current elected board member of the EMANZ and in 2016 established ecoNEW to provide consultancy services.

In 2018 Frans helped establish Kata School Australasia, to promote the practices of continuous improvement that Toyota has used for 70 years. He is the current chairperson.

In 2019 Frans attended Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership training in Brisbane and presents the (CRL) slide deck on climate change to interested parties.

Frans is currently focused on using the behaviours of Toyota Kata to achieve the challenge of carbon zero.

Making our existing buildings carbon zero is also a tremendous challenge. We can use the scientific method of Toyota Kata to meet this challenge.
